To say that this week didn’t exactly go as planned would be an understatement. While there were multiple unfortunate circumstances that arose, one of the ones that affected me the most was finding out that I can no longer leave for Germany when I had planned. Let me explain… Back at the end of June…

The Postman brings many things to our doors. From store flyers to letters from friends to bills that we'd rather have been lost to packages we forgot we ordered. For me a couple of days ago the Postman made my day.  As many of you know, I sent away my visa application a few weeks…

We live in a world that thrives off of questions. We're surrounded by them every moment of every day, and they drive pretty much every one of our actions. Yet in all of those questions that pound us everyday, there is one particular kind that stands out from the rest, and these are the "What…

Hello! I spend my days out in the forest on the back of a horse and my nights are spent with a book or binge-watching crime dramas. Writing has been one of my passions for a while now because I love how you can connect life, emotions, and experiences through words. I hope to shed light on issues that are seldom talked about and to share my own personal experiences as I fearlessly pursue a joyful life in the Lord.

Our world is obsessed with an either/or mentality towards life. You’re either extroverted, or you’re introverted. You’re either frugal, or you throw your money around. You’re either a city person, or you’re a country person. When we live our lives this way, always trying to figure out which side of the line we should be on, we’ll slowly feel our joy starting to fade away. We become constricted by all the things we can and can’t be.
We live in a world that praises the unusual, the complex, and the hard to attain. There are countless tv shows about transformations or finally making it big. But you’d never see a show about everyday life as a mom or about what it’s like to be a postal worker. Ours is a world where people are constantly longing to escape their reality, to trade a couple of hours for the chance to pretend at another life. But what would happen if we decided to not buy the lie that our lives were something that we needed to escape from? What would happen if we no longer listened when the world said we had to be a certain way to live a meaningful life?
Happy Easter Everyone!
"When I feel anxiety start to wrap its icy fingers around my heart, I know that I need to drop what I’ve been holding in my hands and run back to the Lord. My anxiety is a signal that I’ve been trying to keep the world together instead of trusting that the Lord has it under control. When we worry and stress, we’re telling God that we don’t trust Him, that His plan for us isn’t as good as the one that we created for ourselves. Anxiety tells us that we have to do it all on our own; no one will help us, especially not a God who feels farther and farther away every day. We don’t realize that those feelings have slowly lead us away from the refuge of God. They’ve taken us by the hand and walked us into the middle of the forest, where the trees are so close together the sun can’t touch the ground. And they’ve left us there. God feels far away in moments of anxiety because we’re crushed by the darkness we’ve wandered into.
We thought that Winter had finally loosened her grip on us, but really she was lulling us into a false sense of security. (But then again it's the end of March in Alberta so really we should have expected it) Thankfully I have a pretty good crew to weather the storms with.
As Christians, we are called to put off the old self and clothe ourselves with Christ. In theory, this is an easy concept to master, similar to changing out of our dirty work clothes when we come home at the end of the day. But in reality, the putting off and pulling on is much more challenging because we have to do it constantly and consistently. It’s not an end of the day kind of thing; it’s an every-moment type of action because we dirty our hearts so quickly. Simply by living in a fallen world, we rub up against sin every day of our lives, and if we don’t take the time to wash it off, it starts to form a layer of dirt and deception over our hearts. The enemy will whisper lies and twisted truths like, “You aren’t that bad, not compared to other people” or “You can keep sinning because the Lord will keep forgiving you. There’s no need to change.” And soon enough, we have such a thick layer of grime surrounding our hearts that we struggle to hear the truth. When that happens, we need to be power washed by the Holy Spirit, which is unpleasant but necessary.
