A Prayer for the Changing Season

Lord,

As the warm summer days give way to crisp fall nights, I pray that we’ll seek you first every day.

As we head back to school or to work after vacation days spent with dirty feet and wild hair, I pray that we’ll see your provision in our lives.

And as the seasons change and we feel the pull to draw close to loved ones and slow down, may we remember that our true rest is only found in you.

None of us know what this next season of life will hold, which is both a blessing and a curse. It lets us walk forward with wide-eyed wonder at what you’re going to do, but it also invites anxiety into our hearts and minds. May we lay that down at your feet Lord, choosing to live with hands open and palms up, ready to receive what you have for us.

Thank you for the joy and laughter that comes with the bright summer sun. Thank you for hours spent outside in the embrace of your creation. Thank you for pictures in photo albums and memories in scrapbooks. Remind us that the art of living fully loved doesn’t end simply because the leaves are falling.

In this season of preparation, may we be reminded daily that our relationship with you is the most important Lord. May we carve our time to spend with you instead of trying to squeeze it in at the end of the day. Prepare our hearts for what you have in store for us Father.

As we watch the trees start to change and the temperature starts to drop, remind us that you are working in all seasons of our lives. You are just as alive and active in the winters of the soul as you are in the summers.

I pray that we’ll lift our eyes towards heaven, always seeking out more of you instead of being focused on what’s going on with ourselves.

Wherever we go and whatever we do, you are always in control and always walking beside us. Thank you for that Lord. Lead us boldly into this next season.

Amen
