A Prayer for the Summer

Lord,

As the days grow longer and the sun kisses our skin, may we remember that you are the bringer of life and light.

As we go about our days, playing with friends and greeting strangers along the way, may we remember that they are all your precious children.

Keep our hearts soft and our convictions firm.

May we treat everyone with the love, respect, and dignity you showed to the tax collectors, blind men, and women caught in adultery.

And may we never shy away from sharing your truth with the people we encounter today.

Keep us humble, even when we don’t want to be. It is your glory and your kingdom that we are working towards, not our own.

Remind us daily that success in your upside-down kingdom looks very different than success here on earth.

Help our lives to be honey and salt to the world. May our actions be sweet and sticky like honey, a soothing balm to the hearts around us. And may our words be as salt, not to rub into a wound but to bring life and rich flavour to people around us.

May we spend more days basking in the wonder of your creation than locked inside our houses.

Help us to prioritize making memories over getting likes. Keep our eyes, ears, and hearts present with the people right in front of us.

Keep our feet firmly planted on the path you have laid out for us. May we not try to race ahead to the finish line but rather walk in step with you, trusting your perfect and divine timing. Keep us steady, Lord.

In all things, may your name be praised, Lord. And may this summer be an alter moment in your children’s lives. A time that they can look back on and say, “This is how the Lord moved in my life.” In all that we say and do, may it be for your glory and the good of your children.

In Jesus’ Name,
Amen
